Silvery Rills (excerpts) by Sean Shepherd performed by the Reno Phiharmonic
5 Apr 2012
Sean Shepherd, the Reno Philharmonic's first Composer-In-Residence, grew up right here in Northern Nevada. This brilliant, young talent from a fourth-generation Nevada family is taking the world by storm and quickly developing an international reputation as a composer. For the March 2011 concert, "Discover New Worlds," Sean wrote a new piece specifically for the Reno Phil as part of the Composer-In-Residence program. His piece, "Silvery Rills," takes its name from "Home Means Nevada," the state song of Nevada. Having grown up in the music programs of the Washoe County public schools, Sean played bassoon in the Phil's youth orchestra and sees this commission as a chance to celebrate his heritage. Video contains excerpts of the piece.
